During the NA178 expedition, scientists Adrian Burke and Jory Teltser are conducting open-ocean biodiversity surveys of seabirds and other marine species from the observation deck on E/V Nautilus. This photo of a laughing gull was the first bird spotted, right as the ship sailed out of Honolulu Harbor.
